Our beautiful new polytunnel has been damaged by vandals
We're sorry to have to report a case of vandalism at the Farm.
As many of you have seen from our status update on Facebook, the polytunnel has been hit by vandalism - or should that be knifed?
I am away so I haven't seen the full extent, but Julie has sent me photos of some of the damage. Apparently, there are more photos and more damage:
* one side has been slashed virtually the whole length at ground level
* the side nearest the trees has had circles cut into quite a number of the panels
* some of the 'hot spot' tape has been sliced
The polytunnel can only be seen from the adjoining vegetable plot or from our neighbour's yard, indicating that either we have a trespasser or the damage was done by someone working at or visiting Anthony's yard. Either possibility raises cause for concern and means we will have to reconsider our future plans.
The police have been informed & are expected to do a site visit to see the damage. Obviously, there were no witnesses so we're not hopeful that there will be any repercussions for the guilty party.
This is the second bout of vandalism we have suffered at the farm, with all the tyres on both Jane and my cars having been slashed in December 2006. This was, possibly coincidentally, just a few days after we took in an injured & starved stray dog whom we named Holly. We nursed her back to full (and very lively!) health and managed to rehome her earlier this year with an active and loving family from Cardiganshire who frequently spend weekends in this part of South Pembrokeshire.
We will, of course, post any updates as we get them.

Im just amazed as to why??
The person responsible must lead such a misarable life to want to upset and cause distress to others.
Im a firm believer that what goes around comes around and I am taking comfort that this person will pehaps one day feel ashamed of what he had done.
I truly hope that this does not dampen your plans and it makes you all stronger and more determined.
Love to you all

Jeff & Julie made some running repairs yesterday to stop things getting any worse, but we don't know yet whether the cover can be salvaged at all or whether we will have to start again from scratch.
I like the idea of a Bear Pit - can we put Clive in it as he'd be far scarier than any bear? ;)
All other security suggestions gratefully received, as I'm now a bit worried that something similar may happen to the fence that Julie & Jeff are working on today (yes, we've had to move that up to Priority One), or possibly to any plants, trees or bushes we plant in future.

I so hope the polytunnel can be salvaged, please keep us posted. I am sending a few of the boys round, to sort out meals for the next weekend, its looks like it will be, bacon sarnies, bangers and mash, bacon and cabbage all courtesy of your neighbour and his little piggies ;-)

Sorry to hear about the tunnel, especially after seeing the photo's of all the hard work that went into it.
Makes you wonder though who was responsible as like you said can only been seen from certain places!!
Hopefully it is not a total loss and can be fixed... :)

Despite the running repairs, the damage proved to be too extensive and we had to remove a large section of the cover over the weekend. The front 2 bays are still resisting the effects of the wind but we're not sure how long that will continue, especially seeing as Jeff has seen stones being thrown from Anthony's yard - but unfortunately not who was doing the throwing.
The good news is that Julie stumbled across our original Land Registration documents, as signed by Anthony & his wife Alison, and the boundary is much further back that we realised. This means that not only do we own the root of the yellow rambling rose (which Jane fell in love with on our first visit), but also the stone wall behind the cherry tree *and* the informal pig slurry pit that has been causing us so much trouble.
As there are rumours in the area that Anthony has sold the land, we're planning to wait a little while and assert our rights with the new owner - whilst of course wishing the Coles good luck in their next venture!
